Each spare BreatheX Journey battery operates 11-12 hours at a CPAP pressure of 10cm H2O so you may be able to squeeze two nights out of one battery if you get up early or reduce the CPAP pressure.

These 8-Cell Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries measure just 2.9" by 2.1" by 3.4" (7.4cm x 5.3cm x 8.6cm) so like Rick in this mountain biking case study, you can easily bring 7 of these whilst making a long trip.

Recharging takes 5 hours. If you have two batteries, you can charge one while you sleep with the other in the BreatheX Journey powering the CPAP.

Brief History of Battery Powered CPAP Machines

While CPAP therapy has been available for over 25 years the use of this mode of treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been generally limited to locations where there is a continuous source of power. This meant that remote camping, sailboat trips and similar activities could not be done by CPAP users. The only option available to CPAP users was to carry a large battery (approximately 30 lbs / 14Kgs) and find a way to charge it after each use.

Newer CPAP technology has been developed that uses much smaller and more efficient blowers. This allows these devices to be smaller, but also more power efficient. With the current battery technologies available that have higher energy densities, such as Lithium Ion, it is possible to power a CPAP device for an entire night on a battery that can fit into the palm of your hand. This allows CPAP users to engage in recreational activities and still receive the benefits of CPAP therapy.
