Mandibular Advancement

Sometimes it can be difficult to user your CPAP, for example on a long-haul flight or somewhere without reliable mains power. You don't want to do without the benefits of sleep apnoea treatment so what can you do? You either use a battery with your CPAP machine or opt for a temporary alternative to CPAP, called Mandibular Advancement.

A Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD) or Splint (MAS) is a mouth guard-like dental appliance which gently pulls your lower jaw and tongue forward, creating more space at the back of the throat, reducing and sometimes preventing apnoea and snoring from happening.

The Somnofit is one of the best and most comfortable of such splints which you can mold yourself. This makes for a good temporary alternative to CPAP, especially for mild OSA. For a true, long-term or even permanent option you need a dentist-fitted splint like the SomnoDent MAS.
