RemZzzs Frequently Asked Questions
Size & Fitting
How do I know which CPAP mask model I have?
There are dozens of different masks and we don't have RemZzzs liners for all of them. The most used masks all have RemZzzs available though so please follow these instructions to find out which mask you have. Most masks have the manufacturer name printed on there. For example, ResMed, Respironics or Fisher & Pakel (F&P). Sometimes embossed on the mask frame, you will find the short version of the name, or a code. For example 431 or a longer number indicating the code. You can e-mail this in to us or Google the code to find the corresponding mask name. The mask size is often embossed too. It's sometimes hard to see but there will be an S, M or L on there somewhere. You can also ask the clinic you got it from or if you ordered it from Intus Healthcare, check your order confirmation e-mails. You do need to pick the right RemZzzs liners and mask size, otherwise it won't fit correctly.
What if I don’t see my CPAP mask on your site?
Currently, the makers of RemZzzs support the most common Full Face and Nasal CPAP masks on the market, and they are constantly working to develop liners for new mask types and models. Actually, some of the RemZzzs CPAP mask liners are compatible with mask styles not shown in. Please contact us about your specific needs. Known compatibility:
- ResMed Mirage Activa / LT liners fit the Fisher & Paykel FlexiFit 405, 406 and 407 masks as well as the Fisher & Paykel Zest and the ResMed Micro and Ultra Mirage II Nasal masks.
- Fisher & Paykel FlexiFit 431/432 liners fit the Fisher 7 Paykel Forma mask too, as well as the Probasics Zzz-Mask Full Face.
- The Respironics ComfortGel and ComfortClassic liners also fit the Respironics ComfortSelect, ComfortFusion and the Profile Lite masks.
More compatibility information is provided on the RemZzzs mask liner product pages.
My mouth doesn't fit in the hole on my full face liner, did I get the right size?
Yes, the hole is small by design, since the liner will stretch. Once it is securely in place between the mask and face, you can pull outward on the 1/2 - 3/4 inches of fabric sticking out around the mask. This is how a custom fit is achieved, by stretching the liner to fit comfortably around your uniquely shaped nose & mouth area. The special fabric of the liners will in fact stretch up to three times its size. Once it's in place and you secure the headgear straps, you simply stretch the liner until it fits around your nose and mouth, it should then fit perfectly!
RemZzzs Design & Use
Can I wear RemZzzs for more than one night?
Since RemZzzs mask liners are designed to absorb oil & moisture from your face, we recommend one fresh facial liner per night for maximum effectiveness and comfort. RemZzzs forehead liners are designed to be used for fifteen nights each, as their sole purpose is to aid in stability and comfort. You may use all sides of the forehead liner by simply turning over or refolding.
Can I wash and dry RemZzzs?
Attempting to wash or dry will shrink & curl RemZzzs, diminishing its absorption qualities and eliminating its effectiveness. Of course you can try, but most people feel most comfortable with a fresh liner every night.
Wat are RemZzzs liners made of?
RemZzzs is a special blend of naturally absorbent fibers. After an extended period of careful fibre selection, this mix of fibres was found to have the best properties for this purpose.
Can't I just cut up an old t-shirt to shape and use that?
Four reasons why this isn't the best approach to proper mask fitting:
1. RemZzzs fabric is made from a blend of 100% long staple special cotton; the highest grade of cotton, which is why it is so soft. T-shirts have to resist many wash cycles, hence made of sturdier but less soft material.
2. It also is not a woven material, but rather it is knit. Most T-shirts are made of a lesser grade of cotton which has shorter, coarser fibers that stick out (when seen under magnification), creating a rougher finish.
3. Another reason for not cutting it out of an old shirt is the fact that it has been washed numerous times. Washing & drying tends to shrink the cotton fibers, thus minimizing the absorbency quality. Since one of the major functions of RemZzzs is to absorb sweat & facial oil, thus preventing the mask from slipping, the liners must be very soft & absorbent to work most efficiently!
4. Another reason to not cut your own from a shirt or any other material is simple. It is a time consuming pain in the backside! Seriously, it is time consuming & hard on the wrist. In fact, during the early days when RemZzzs were being developed, the inventors developed tendonitis in their wrists and shoulders from all of the hundreds of liners they cut out.
What if I wrinkle my facial liners? Can I iron RemZzzs?
Applying heat from an iron will flatten the fibers and diminish its absorption capabilities. If you have trouble with wrinkling, do your best to position the liner as flat as possible on the mask cushion. Once you fasten the mask in place, the liner should smooth out. If you’ve already fastened the mask in place and wrinkling is still a concern, adjusting RemZzzs by pulling on the protruding edges may decrease wrinkling as well.
After I’ve fastened RemZzzs in place, the edges curl. Is this a problem?
Each RemZzzs CPAP mask liner is very delicate and it’s very common for the edges to curl. Curling does not affect performance. Any absorbed moisture will simply run from the point of contact to the edges, much like sponge.
The liner seems kind of wide. Is it supposed to stick out around the edges of my mask?
Definitely. In order to offer the highest comfort, RemZzzs liners will extend about a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch (just over a centimeter) beyond your mask cushion’s edge. These edges also help to adjust RemZzzs once your mask has been fastened in place. What seems like 'left-overs' actually works like a sponge for later in the night.
The center hole looks pretty small, shouldn’t it be bigger?
It’s actually like that on purpose. RemZzzs CPAP mask liners are designed to stretch around your nose and mouth in order to provide a custom fit. Once you position your face into the liner and fasten the straps into place, you can adjust RemZzzs by pulling on the protruding edges.
What is the extra rectangular liner for?
That’s a RemZzzs forehead pad liner. If your mask has a forehead cushion, follow the fitting instructions for how to use appropriately. If your mask does not have a forehead cushion you probably won’t need to use it. Each Month-Supply pack with 30 RemZzzs liners includes (2) forehead liners. Since the forehead liner does not stretch to custom fit your face, it can be used for fifteen days each. You may use all sides of the forehead liner by simply turning it over or refolding.
Am I able to wear face cream to bed while using a RemZzzs Liner?
Yes! Actually we encourage the use of a cream or lotion on one’s face before putting on your mask, with a RemZzzs mask liner in place. It will aid in keeping the liner in place, as well as promote healthier facial skin. The face cream will not interfere with the mask’s silicone cushion, since the liner is a barrier between your face & the mask.
Will RemZzzs still work if I have facial hair?
Yes, absolutely! In the inventor's studies, beards or mustaches did not seem to interfere with the effectiveness of RemZzzs.
Do RemZzzs CPAP mask liners actually decrease air leakage?
Yes!! Studies show that RemZzzs liners significantly reduce air leaks, allowing more consistent pressure. Best of all, you won’t be waking up anymore from those rapid “squealing balloon” or "raspberries" air leaks! Be sure to read some of the testimonials have shared with us.
