AirFit F20 Full Face CPAP Mask with QuietAir

The AirFit F20 is a clear culmination of the feedback ResMed have had from their previous mask generations; keep (and improve) what works, and change what does not. Gone is the entirely frosted cushion surface, replaced with a largely smooth surface seen in the Quattro, using only the frosting on the problematic nasal bridge with new supports to aid the seal in this area. Gone are the rubber quick-release tabs for the elbow, with a more durable and easier to use plastic design incorporated. The new inflatable seal and magnetic clips are new technologies that should provide a step forward from previous entries. Overall, these should combine to make the AirFit F20 ResMed’s best full face mask yet, and their internal studies (detailed below) along with early reviews suggest that they do. If you are considering changing to a different full face mask, then the AirFit F20 should be on your shortlist. Small size is no longer available. We can no longer obtain the small size of this mask. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. IMPORTANT – the magnetic clips this mask uses mean it is unsuitable for patients with a pacemaker. Please instead consider a different Full Face CPAP Mask. If you have not used this mask before – please click on the “Downloads” tab below to find the sizing guide. Please do not assume which size you need – the sizing guide will ensure you get the most appropriate size.

AirFit F20 – new and old technologies combine to make ResMed’s best full face mask yet

  • New InfinitySeal silicone cushion designed to accommodate your movements, and tolerate misfitting
  • Easy to use magnetic clips* for quick fitting
  • Flexible fabric-lined frame delivers breadth of fit while adding comfort
  • Plush headgear assists in giving a more comfortable night’s therapy
  • “For Her” version available for more tailored therapy (special order item – call 0800 024 8050)

Now with QuietAir elbow! – the F20 mask now includes ResMed’s QuietAir elbow, which reduces noise but 89% and makes exhaled air leave the mask 70% more gently. Both make the F20 more comfortable for both you and your bed partner.

*IMPORTANT – the magnetic clips this mask uses mean it is unsuitable for patients with a pacemaker. Please instead consider a different Full Face CPAP Mask.

The AirFit F20 was designed to comfortably fit the widest range of faces. Indeed, in an internal ResMed study, the AirFit F20 fitted 96.5% of all patients. The mask includes comfort features, such as the adaptive silicone cushion, which aim to provide a secure and comfortable seal for your therapy needs regardless of your face shape or size.

Extensively tested and designed to give you the best therapy experience, AirFit F20 is a proven choice among patients. Recent ResMed internal studies have shown that, when comparing against the current market-leading full-face mask, 86% of the patients prefer the seal of AirFit F20.

A majority of patients in ResMed internal studies also say they prefer AirFit F20 over the current market leader in terms of stability and ease of use.

AirFit F20 – Numerous small advancements combine to great effect

When looking at the ResMed AirFit 20 next to the previous generation, the AirFit F10, there are few visible differences. However there are several small improvements all over, and these combine to make a notable overall improvement to the already-popular F10.

The cushion: The AirFit F20 uses ResMed’s new InfinitySeal cushion design. While similar in shape to the F10, the cushion behaves differently. It effectively inflates towards the face, providing a more cushioned seal and greater flexibility. It should also allow for a looser fit (it is less reliant on being strapped tight to seal), and the wider contact area with the face reduces the risk of pressures sores. Finally, the cushion combines two silicone finishes from previous mask; the F10 cushion had a frosted finish which sacrificed a little grip compared to the smooth finish previous ResMed mask (such as the Quattro), in return for a softer feel and markings. With the F20, the majority of the cushion is the superior grip of the smooth finish, with the frosted texture used on the nasal bridge – the most problematic area for skin damage. ResMed have added stays on the inside of the cushion to prevent the reduced grip in the area causing the cushion to leak into the eyes. Initial reviews for this new mask suggest this design works very well, providing the best overall balance of seal and comfort of any ResMed mask to date.

Magnetic headgear clips: The AirFit F20 is the first ResMed full face mask to have magnetic headgear clips. There are numerous advantages to this style clip; they are far easier to apply, as the magnet gets pulled into place automatically, and also to remove. They are also not reliant on a relatively small hook of plastic, which is typically the first part of a CPAP mask to fail. The magnets are actively pulling the tab onto the mask throughout the night, so the risk of it detaching during sleep if greatly reduced compared to a hook design that can work its way loose or off. Overall, this is a big improvement over previous ResMed designs and we would expect this to now be the standard for all of their mask in the future.

Fabric frame supports: The “arms” the got from the main frame of the AirFit F20 to the headgear now have a fabric cover, unlike the AirFit F10 or the Quattro FX. This fabric cover prevents unnecessary silicone contact with the skin, which can be uncomfortable and cause marks or skin irritation.

Elbow and exhalation: The AirFit F10 had a quick-release elbow, which was very useful for getting up during the night without having the remove and re-fit the mask; you simply squeezed the elbow on either side to release it from the main mask. The AirFit F20 has redesigned the tabs to be made of plastic rather than rubber, so should be easier to push and also more durable. The exhalation port has also been redesigned, and early reviews suggest it is now notably quieter than the old F10 design.

AirFit F20 – the best ResMed full face mask?

The AirFit F20 is a clear culmination of the feedback ResMed have had from their previous mask generations; keep (and improve) what works, and change what does not. Gone is the entirely frosted cushion surface, replaced with a largely smooth surface seen in the Quattro, using only the frosting on the problematic nasal bridge with new supports to aid the seal in this area. If you are considering changing to a different full face mask, then the AirFit F20 should be on your shortlist.

Sizing your ResMed AirFit F20 CPAP mask

We have found that the AirFit F20 does not always size up the same as other CPAP masks; including previous ResMed masks. We therefore strongly recommend using the Sizing Gauge in the Downloads tab above before ordering, and not to assume that being a medium in your current mask means you will be a medium in the AirFit F20. We always recommend using a sizing gauge when purchasing any CPAP mask for the first time, but with the ResMed AirFit F20 it is particularly important. Please note: all sizes of mask will be supplied with the standard sized headgear – this is a long-standing ResMed policy across all of their masks and is beyond our control. If a larger or smaller headgear is required this will need to be purchased separately (it can be found here) and cannot be exchanged/swapped with the one supplied. However the regular size fits the vast majority of patients, regardless of mask size.

Comfortable. 100% recommend this mask so much more comfortable the old mask

    Maggie

Problems experienced by first time user. As a first time user I found it easy to fit, but after wearing for 20 mins the head harness appliance being tight at the base of the skull gives me headache and this part is not adjustable. Also, wearing the face mask made my teeth ache, if i loosen it , it doesn’t give a good seal.Maybe when i go back to the Hospital they will have some ideas.

    Dp

Dented nose. The mask is easy to use but has dented my nose and often in the morning my nose is red and swollen

    ERICO

AIRFIT MASK. I’ve had several of these masks and they are a great leap forward in comfort and fit. However every Air Fit mask has split where the rubberised seal joins the hard plastic. I have made temporary repairs with super glue. This area really to be strengthened to achieve a stronger bond.

    Mitchump

Not the right mask for me. I’ve been using an F10 but having a bit of a leak issue. I wondered whether the F20 might be better, so I downloaded the sizing guide and measured myself up. Somewhat to my surprise, I came up as a Small, so that’s what I ordered. It turned up promptly. Excellent so far. The mask did feel a little small after my Medium F10, but it was much less prone to leaking, which was good. However, it left the bridge of my nose red and sore, which is not good. Back to the F10 and the soreness went away quickly. My dilemma is whether the new materials of the F20 don’t suit me or whether al larger mask will be the solution. £50 to find out, so I might just stick with the F10 and endure the odd leak.

Intus comment: Thank you for your review Mitchump. If the mask generally seals better, then using a liner such as the LiquiCell should prevent the nasal bridge sore you described. That way you can benefit from the better seal without having that issue.

most comfortable full face mask yet!!

light and very comfortable. I now have 5 different masks with the Airfit being the latest addition. up until now I have mostly used the resmed mirage quatro.

this mask just seems to be so much lighter and more comfortable.

the lack of the brow piece like on other full face masks makes this feel more airy and allows you to lay in bed with glasses on.

on the first night it felt a little like it was pressing into the corners of my eyes but after some adjustments it was fine.

the only Con I have about the mask is thats its not as easy to put on and take off as other masks, but that is probably to do with the brilliant strap configuration of the head bands that keeps the mask in place all night long.

i no longer wake up in the middle of the night due to my mask having shifted causing leaks.

this really is a comfortable mask that you hardly notice you are wearing once on!!

as with most masks, I feel it is very expensive for what you are getting, but thats across the board with all masks.. but for sure this is my new “go to” mask for a good nights sleep..!

The best mask I have tried.. I tried this mask after using several others which had head-band harnesses. These gave me a Frankenstein mark around my forehead which was quite noticeable. I found that the problem and the mark disappeared with the Air Fit 20 and noisy leaks also went away. The Medium size felt slightly too small, so I got a Large size. Initially very comfortable, but slight leakage recurred. I am back with the Medium and reckon this the best mask yet. The only criticism is that the magnetic clips are a nuisance when washing the harness and I don’t know why normal clips are not used.

    AJ

Excellent. The best mask yet.. Having moved onto the F10 I didn’t think it could get much better but the F20 has surpassed all expectations. I find the magnetic clips easy to use and very secure. A very well thought out and constructed mask.

It should be made obvious that that the mask and headgear are of different sizes. The supplier tried to resolve this and were very helpful. the mask is a good fit. The headgear was too small. I purchased a large mask expecting that it would be supplied with large headgear.. This is not disclosed in the information when purchased. INTUS COMMENT – We have amended the listing based on your feedback. We do apologise it was not clear enough at the time of purchase.

    Guido

A quality item. Very easy to put on and take off and is extremely comfortable in use, with minimal air leaks if applied properly. I especially like the magnetic clips and the best bit is just clicking on the tube to the front of the mask to initiate the treatment.

    MC

Really comfortable mask. As a first time user I bought this with the sleepcube (see separate review) and found it really lightweight and comfortable. I found a couple of tips useful – firstly don’t overtighten – I put the mask on with the CPAP machine working and loosened the straps until I heard it leak and then gently re-tightened the straps a little and that was set, secondly when putting it on at night allow the CPAP machine to blow a little air in before fixing the bottom straps as this inflates the sides and creates an air cushion around your mouth and nose which makes it far more comfortable. Overall a fairly pricey mask but well worth the money for the comfort. As another tip I bought the CPAP pillow which is small but works well to stop the mask from being pushed to one side as I’m a side sleeper.

    Bob

Good product but……. The product has it’s advantage from the older version quattro one but the only thing I don’t like about the product is the air blowing out is dispersed in all directions front the mask. My wife keeps complaing of a draft of wind on her face even though an not facing her. Otherwise it ticks all the boxes for me. Worth getting the fitting warranty if you’re not sure. Medium is a good fit for the average guy.

    Antonis

a very good mask. Probably the best cpap mask. Expensive but the rule here is what you give is what you get. Carefull with the size measure your self if you got a big head (like me) you ll probalby need the large headgear. Hope that soon will be available the quiet air elbow and also the airtouch coushion.

    Isidora

Good Product. Good 1st mask, took a little getting used to. It seems to work better when it is looser rather than tightened, once I found that out, it worked really well. Light weight and fairly comfortable to sleep in.

    Chloe-24/7VentUser

Great idea, bad quality . Great mask, I use it while sleeping and a nasal one in the day. I loved this mask until the seal tore. I got another one as I was in hospital and it was being used excessively but no, my second tore and the third. By now I was so angry that my amazing new mask tore every 3/4months. The magnets that fasten the mask on are easily lost as they slip off the strap while your trying to adjust it. I love the mask but it must be made more durable for 24/7 ventilator patients, being 22 I love going out and I need a reliable full face mask and for the first time resmed I am disappointed.

    Craig

At great mask when new. This mask was superb when new, the only initial complaint was that air blown out of the front vent irritated my partner.

Now that the mask has been used a few months I find it doesn’t seal very well around the face and leaks a lot, I have to over tighten which hurts the face and the straps are going past the point they should stick on the top of the head. Its quite irritating how easily the mask comes apart.

    Edge

Great mask – but rendered useless when a catch broke off. I had this mask for about 9 months. Until two weeks ago it was possibly the best mask I’ve had in eight years. The magnetic catches are a great idea – much less fumbling around because, once the two parts are close together, the magnets snap them into the right position. Unfortunately, the parts of the catches that are attached to the mask have a rather flimsy attachment and one of them just snapped off. Not great for something that costs over £100. The warranty is only 90 days, so now I have to fork out again. While I appreciate the need to keep the weight of these masks down, there are some parts that do need to be made strong enough. If not for that, I would’ve recommended this mask.

    GK

What a find… the best mask by far I have found yet.. Its a bit like the U2 song – “I haven’t found what I am looking for…” until now that is!

Whilst in Oz briefly, using a F&P product which I thought pretty good at the time, a small piece of plastic broke rendering the whole mask useless.

Tried this product, and it has been amazing to date (taking into some of the durability complaints above) – the comfort, quality and its ease of use makes all the other masks (I have two drawers full of different types) I have tried over the years, very, very second rate. Run at very high pressures (18).

I have only had it for a couple of months. So not durability issues (touch wood) experienced via other reviewers yet.

    Gavin

A good quality full face mask that I recommend.. I’ve tried one full face mask before this that kept leaking. This mask didn’t leak and is made of quality materials on the mask, seal, and straps.

It fits comfortably on the face and using the magnetic connectors the straps can be pulled around the back of the head and easily fasten securely. I’ve never had the mask come off unexpectedly or had any leaks.

I recommend this mask to anyone who is trying the full face masks for the first time.

How can I look after this mask?

It’s recommended that your mask should be washed daily, avoiding antibacterial soap as it will cause damage to the silicone mask cushion. Also washing your face before applying the mask will be beneficial to your quality of CPAP therapy.

We have a number of products to help keep your Resmed F10 in peak condition, we would suggest picking up some CPAP Mask Wipes

Why would I need a full face mask?

A full face mask is recommended if you breathe through your mouth while you sleep, even if only for short periods. The Resmed F10 Full Face mask will allow CPAP therapy for both the nasal passageways as well as the mouth.

When will I need to replace my mask cushion?

It is recommended to replace your Resmed F10 Full Face mask cushion every nine months on average. The headgear should be replaced as and when the elasticity is no longer effective. Both can be found on the Airfit F10 Parts page.

It can sometimes be more cost effective to replace the entire mask, particularly if you need both the cushion and the headgear.

It is strongly recommended to replace mask cushions and pillows as soon as they start to soften. This will lead to air leaks which will reduce the effectiveness of CPAP.

Are there any alternatives to the Resmed F10 Full Face mask?

We have plenty of Full Face masks available for purchase on our online stores. Some other popular full face CPAP masks that are the Sleepweaver Full Face CPAP Mask

Do I need a prescription to order the AirFit F10 CPAP mask?

No. Only CPAP machines require a prescription; all other items on our site are provided on a self-declared prescription basis during the checkout process.
